Now this is what I am talking about! Finally, more and more people are starting to evolve past what our society thinks is the “Right” way to go about life.
It is about time, I love hearing about young people tuning into there entrepreneurial minds.
There was this article in the paper today, talking about this really smart high school student. His mane is Nick Cammarata, and he is not your typical high school student. He would rather read books on subjects that actually interest him, rather than reading book on what is considered “Mandatory” in schools.
Apparently, Nick Cammarata has a knack for coding, and that ability got him entrance into the Carnegie Mellon University’s esteemed computer science program. However, even with that great opportunity in front of him, Nick has other plans… Nick is one of two dozen students that received a $100,000 scholarship, to chase his entrepreneurial dreams for the next two years.
Peter Thiel, co- founder of PayPal as well as on of the first major investors for Facebook, hand picked these students. He is essentially giving these students $100,000 NOT to go go college. Thiel believes that young minds benefit more from skipping college and bringing their ideas to the real world. He has Facebook and the Facebook team backing that claim, he’s covered.
This is what I consider news, this puts a big smile on my face. These young minds are getting a real opportunity to prove themselves, and show the world what they got. Rather than wasting their potential in college doing general education for two years, they get to do something WAY more productive. College is for some, but it is certainly not for everyone.
It is nice to see that someone is taking an interest in those people, those who feel college is not for them because they are meant for bigger things. The majority of the worlds most influential and most successful people, either dropped out of college, or didn’t bother to go at all. Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Jobs just to name a few.
These two dozen lucky students could be the next group of influential and successful people. They have been give a great opportunity, and I hope they do the most they can with it. It is not every day a person like Peter Thiel hands you $100,000, and tells you spread your wings. This article was just to good for me to ignore, I had to share it with my readers, hope you enjoy!!!
