Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known to most as the one and only Lady Gaga, has taken the world by storm. Even as a young girl this innovative artist loved music and had a desire to perform. whether she was dancing around in restaurants using bread sticks as batons, or singing to Michael Jackson. Miss Gaga was born to entertain. With multiple talents as a singer, song writer, and a theatrical passion. Lady Gaga has put her very own unique spin on music as we know it.
- “I always loved rock and pop and theater. When I discovered Queen and David Bowie is when it really came together for me and I realized I could do all three.”
It was actually Queens song “Radio Gaga” that was the inspiration for her very own nickname,as well as Donatella Versace as her fashion icons, Gaga created what she is today.
- “I look at those artists as icons in art. It’s not just about the music. It’s about the performance, the attitude, the look; it’s everything. And, that is where I live as an artist and that is what I want to accomplish.”
Gaga is the girl who at age 4 learned piano, by ear none the less, and by age 13 had written her first piano ballad. Attending Convent of the Sacred Heart (the Manhattan private school Nicky and Paris Hilton just happened to reside), Gaga was teased for her eccentric and very unique and different style by her peers. Getting her start at lower east side clubs and open mics at clubs, Gaga works out her own outrageously stunning performance pieces and even makes many of the wild and gorgeous stage outfits.
- “My goal as an artist is to funnel a pop record to a world in a very interesting way.”
“The Fame”
Writing all of her lyrics, all of her melodies, and playing most of the synth work on this album, it’s as if Gaga took 2 parts dance-pop, 1 part electro-pop, and 1 part rock with a splash of disco and burlesque and generously poured That amazingly delicious combination into the figurative martini glasses of the world in hopes to get everyone drunk with her fame and hung over with her sound.
- “The Fame is about how anyone can feel famous.”
- “Pop culture is art. It doesn’t make you cool to hate pop culture, so I embraced it and you hear it all over The Fame. But, it’s a sharable fame. I want to invite you all to the party. I want people to feel a part of this lifestyle.”
“Just Dance”
This song, Wow, its infectious sound and beats just light up the dance floor. As for the equally catchy, “Boys Boys Boys,” Gaga doesn’t mind wearing her influences on her sleeve and let the world know that everyone is entitled to her Gaga-ness.
- “I wanted to write the female version of Motley Crue’s ‘Girls Girls Girls,’ but with my own twist. I wanted to write a pop song that rockers would like.”
“Beautiful Dirty Rich”
The song that marked Gaga’s point of self realization. Where she really discovered herself. Facing parties and drugs she invented just who she wanted to be.
- “That time, and that song, was just me trying to figure things out.”
- “Once I grabbed the reigns of my artistry, I fell in love with that more than I did with the party life.”
As for “Paparazzi,” This song has its own twist on those funny money hungry people with the cameras that borderline stalk the famous people.
- “on one level it IS about wooing the paparazzi and wanting fame. But, it’s not to be taken completely seriously. It’s about everyone’s obsession with that idea. But, it’s also about wanting a guy to love you and the struggle of whether you can have success or love or both.”
This album is just a taste of what Gaga is prepared to offer to the people of the world. Its different and unique. That is something that the industry has not seen in a while. Lady Gaga is an amazing artist and has so much to give to give. This is one born to be pop star who wasn’t plucked from a model casting call, born into a famous family, she didn’t win a reality TV singing contest, or emerge from a teen cable TV sitcom about girls who are just famous for being famous.
- “I did this the way you are supposed to. I played every club in New York City and I bombed in every club and then killed it in every club and I found myself as an artist. I learned how to survive as an artist, get real, and how to fail and then figure out who I was as singer and performer. And, I worked hard.”
Lady Gaga has truly brought something new and wonderful to us. She is truly inspiring and role model worthy. Definitely up in the high rankings of the best artist for 2009, and now as we say goodbye to 2009 and hello to 2010, who knows what The Gaga has in store for herself, her music, and her fans.
- “And, now, I’m just trying to change the world one sequin at a time.”
